Chicago

This past weekend our family traveled to Chicago to visit with several of my husband's family members.  Most importantly, we visited with my husband's grandmother who is 95 years old!  Our trip was short, but fun and hopefully we'll get to go back soon.  I'm just going to share a few pictures from our trip since I'm not big on sharing pictures of other people on my blog.

We got lucky and the weather was wonderful the entire weekend.  We got a lot of outside time, which is perfect for little ones!

Can you guess what he sees?

Cack Cacks Geese!

Macro Monday

Just for fun!  I'm not a pro-photographer or anything.. though I DO love taking lots of pictures :)  I decided to give Macro Monday a try this week.  This is a picture I took this past weekend at the pumpkin patch.  I was playing with the settings on my camera and found "super macro".  yay.  So this is what I got:

Friday!

It's a busy one for us... in a good way of course!

[in the Photo Friday: riding a bug carousel]

You know, I have to keep reminding myself of all those times I sat stranded at work thinking, "I could get SO much more done and really enjoy my days with Dominic if I didn't have to come to work."  As unexpected and initially upsetting as losing my job was, I've really realized what a blessing I've been given.

Tomorrow marks two months since I've had to stress about anything other than my family and my well-being.  I used to be so busy at work and leave each day with a list of things that I already knew I had to do the next.  I rushed here and there and struggled in general when comparing the type of mother I always wanted to be with the type of mother I was.  I don't know how long this will continue, but I'm glad that it happened.  And I DO feel like I've had the last laugh. hah.

If you're nice enough to be stopping by from a Friday blog hop, please leave your URL so that I may follow you back :)

BTW, remember that you can always keep up with our goings on by following me on Twitter!

Thrilling Thursday: Fall Craft Fair

Did I mention that I participated in my first craft fair last weekend?  Yes?  Maybe once or twice. hehe.

I just can't get over how exciting it was.  I'm not the most outgoing sales-person, but I still think I did really well!  Between the pictures of adorable babies and the various caramels I set out, almost everyone at least stopped by my table.  Clearly I'm not above bribes :)

Anywho, I did end up selling a good amount of hats that day and also took orders for more.  Most importantly, I got a LOT of feedback.  Up until now I haven't really had an opportunity to get out there and see what other people had to say about my hats... cause I already know my mom loves them.

I took lots of notes about what hats people seemed most drawn to, what hats sold first, what hats didn't get picked up as much, so on and so forth.  This is SO valuable to me.  Now I have a much better understanding of the market I'm in and will be able to cater to exactly what people want.

With Christmas around the corner I'm hoping to be adding quite a few more items to my etsy shop.  I have a back log of orders to be filled right now.  Once I get those filled, I am going to have a big holiday sale so stay tuned for the announcement!  If YOU would like to place an order for a custom handmade hat, please email me at CaterpillarFamily@yahoo.com.  I'll get back to you ASAP with details and pricing.

To everyone stopping by from Paisley Passions, please take a look around!  Be sure to leave your URL so that I may stop by your blog as well :)

Bark in the Park

Yesterday we went to Bark in the Park!  Bark in the Park is an annual event in our community that benefits the Humane Society.  Our local humane society is near and dear to us- that's where we adopted our Libby girl!  This was our first time going to Bark in the Park but it won't be our last.  We all had a great time :)

All I heard all day was, "PUPPIES" from Dominic!  He was in heaven.

Teardrop

As I hinted in this post, we stopped somewhere incredible on our way home from New York.  The Teardrop is a 9/11 memorial located in Bayonne, New Jersey.  I'll try to tell you about it, but words don't do justice.  It's absolutely beautiful.

If you've never heard of this memorial, you're not alone.  For some reason I cannot understand, coverage on this monument was minimal.  Most people have no idea that the artist Zurab Tsereteli and the people of Russia donated this incredible memorial on September 11th, 2006, the five year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The monument is 100 feet tall and contains a 40 foot teardrop suspended in the center.  There are granite walls surrounding the monument with the names of every person who died in the terrorist attacks.  Every one.  Those in the twin towers, the pentagon, all of the planes, and all of the casualties on the ground are included.

It was hard to find.  We had to take detours around construction and there were no signs leading us there.  We had directions and still got turned around a few times.  When we got there, there were only a couple other people visiting too.  That in itself was incredibly sad.  How is it that we only knew about this place because my mother in law had, by chance, come across a quick story about "the best places you've never heard of" (or something to that effect)??

You might wonder why this memorial is even located there.  We wondered that too.. until we finally pulled up.  The monument is in a direct line with the Statue of Liberty and offers an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline.

If you ever find yourself in the area... or close enough to take a road trip, this is something I recommend everyone see.  It really is remarkable the compassion other countries had for us in our time of hurt.  This incredible gift was given to us and not enough attention has been brought to it.

New York

The C Family had a great time in New York over the weekend!  We visited family, ate lots of great food, spent a day at the Bronx Zoo, and even stopped somewhere amazing on the way home.

The C Family :)

Since it was the first weekend in October it was BOO at the ZOO!  We didn't dress up, but we really enjoyed seeing other kids in costumes and collecting treats at all the exhibits :)

On the way home from New York we took a detour to stop and one of the most touching places I've ever been.  It deserves it's own post.
