moo

All of the sudden our timid little boy has totally come out of his shell.  We've noticed a big difference in the way he participates at MyGym, and he seems much more interactive with other kids.

Today we went to a birthday party for the son of friends of ours.  He is turning 4 and the party was at Chick-fil-A.  I honestly thought that he would be a by-stander at the party.  I mean, all of the kids there were a couple years older than him and he's never been one to like "characters".  Well, I was wrong.  He shocked me.  As soon as we got there he dove right into the play area madness and started running around with all of the other children.  He didn't even look back as he climbed the steps and went down the fully enclosed twirl slide with no help at all.  If he wasn't smaller than the others you would never have known he was younger.

Then he really floored me.  Out came the Chick-fil-A cow.  Dominic loved him.  He was following him around the restaurant giving him high-fives.  He even tried to follow him back to the employee area!  I have to give it to the person in the cow suit.  He/She was great with all of the kids!  When he was done making his rounds, he went back into the employee area and Dominic called for him.  He came out again just for him!  So nice.

He was so worn out that he fell asleep on the short ride home- still holding onto his balloon.

Christmas Card Sneak Peek!

You know how you have up days and down days?  Well, the last week or so has really been filled with UP days for me!  First off, I used the Shutterfly code I received for this blog post for my Christmas cards.  I also had several other codes to use from various promotions and even a Shutterfly party my friend Kaley @ Rouge Poags recently hosted.  By the time I checked out I spent under $25 and saved over $270.  I think this was my best checkout yet!  Here's the proof:
And then, the next thing I know my merch starts rolling in!!  Yesterday I got all my Christmas cards.  BTW, they came on the new Luxe Cardstock Shutterfly is switching over to- LOVE.  The quality is absolutely incredible and the paper really makes my photos pop!  So here's an idea what our cards look like this year.  I don't want to share the exact card because I want it to be a surprise for all of our friends and family.  But, I will tell you that the same picture is used in our "real" Christmas card.

That's not all of the excitement.  Today I check the mail and am delighted to find two more bright orange packages inside!  One contained a cute magnet of our pup, Libby, dressed in her Halloween attire and the other contained a 7x9 soft cover photo book from our recent trip to New York and New Jersey.  I opened that package excitedly, as I took a bunch of quality pictures from that trip knowing that I'd make a book from them.  Inside I not only find my gorgeous book, but I see that the awesome people at Shutterfly have once again decided to make my day and send me another free code!  This time I got a code for five free folded greeting cards.  I'm so happy to get this code.  If you read my last Shutterfly post, you'll know that I try to give these instead of traditional "Hallmark" cards as often as possible.

So, once again, thank you Shutterfly!  :)

what cake means to us

Dominic now likes cake.  Most parents probably cringe when they think about their toddler eating the sugary treat.  Not us.

You see, this is exciting to us.  Last year at this time, as I planned my sweet baby's first birthday party, I knew we wouldn't have the typical baby face-in-cake scene like you normally see.  At one, he ate almost no solid foods.  He certainly wouldn't try new things and things that were overly sweet would almost always cause him to gag.  He pleased us all at his first birthday party by smashing into his cake.  I was so happy with that!  He squished it between his fingers and really had a fun time with it.  But, he wouldn't take one single bite.  Not even a taste

So even though we'll soon be celebrating his second birthday, this will be his first real cake time.  The first time he will be enjoying the treat with a house full of people celebrating his life.  We're so thankful for the progress he's made and thankful that this year he'll have his cake..

..and eat it, too!

So Stylish

...my blog that is!  Thanks to Jeska @ living our love song I've been awarded the Stylish Blogger Award :)  Please go visit her and show some love.  She's my (in real life) friend and has an adorable blog!

Seven things you may not know about me:

1.  Right after college I moved to Myrtle Beach, SC for just over a year to go to school.. I hated the south.
2.  I never graduated college.  I sometimes toss around the idea of going back, but it seems like everyday I have a new idea of what I'd really like to do.
3.  I have two tattoos.  They probably aren't what you'd expect.
4.  I'm married to a cop <3
5.  I have had three open heart surgeries.  Two as an infant and another when I was nine.
6.  Luckily, my heart condition did not affect my pregnancy at all.
7.  My nickname in real life has always been "messy"

I'm tagging the following three  people:

What I'm really thankful for

First off, if you're a new follower I'd like to really thank you for joining!  I really appreciate that there are so many people out there who are reading my craziness.  I try to have fun with my writing, and this is primarily where I share the moments that make me smile and roll my eyes at the same time.  I'm not hugely into the giveaways and such, though I have given away some of my own creations.  I'll also share occasional deals or promos that I have personally participated in.  I know that the blogs that keep me coming back are the ones with actual meaningful content, so that's what I strive for.  I love feedback.  If there's something you'd like to see me answer or discuss, by all means contact me.  You can comment, email me, tweet me, or contact me via facebook.  Again, thanks to all of my new AND current followers.

Just the other day I posted this listing the things I'm most thankful for this year.  But I figure that doesn't really tell you a whole lot about me.  So in an attempt to introduce myself better I'd like to talk about some of the small things that are making me smile right now..

- peppermint coffee creamer.  mmmm.

- my Scentcy warmer and, specifically, the scent "Pumkpin Roll"

- My flannel snowflake bedsheets.  I could sleep on flannel sheets all year 'round.  My husband allows them in the colder months.
Product Image Home Snowflake Flannel Sheet Set

- Mr.Clean Magic Eraser.  Lifesaver!  (my son's life, not mine)
Mr.Clean® Magic Eraser® Original

- DVR.  Because does any mother ever get to watch her shows when they're on?

- and thanks to the DVR, GLEE!
'Glee' Cast Breaks Beatles' Hot 100 Record

- The state of Maryland for holding my former employer accountable when they fired me without reason (take that- ba ha ha)

- My former employer for giving me this blessing in disguise.  because of you I've spent the last three months doing what I want to do and enjoying my son..  wahooo!

- The inventor of the entire Crayola "Washable" line of art supplies.  Being able to wipe crayon/marker/glitter glue off of my kitchen table (and toddler) with only a paper towel and warm water makes me so much more excited about 'art time' in our house.  Thank you

- Pinot Grigio.  Because sometimes what mommy really needs is a time out.

So what are you thankful for this year?

Our 3rd Anniversary

Today is our third wedding anniversary!  In the three years since our wedding day, we've added a home, a crazy pup, and most importantly, a beautiful son.  In the spirit of the season these are the top five things I'm thankful for this November 10th (in no particular order):

1. Good health
2. The love of an awesome man who is dedicated to our marriage and family
3. The ability to provide our son with everything he needs
4. The hope of a bright future
5. Chocolate

For Christmas and the other 364 days a year

By now you all know that I'm a Shutterfly fanatic. I chronical our lives in photo books and live for the coupons and codes that allow me to score major deals on photo merch. I'm slightly obsessive. My favorite products, apart from the photo books, are the greeting cards. My friends and family can attest to the fact that there's nothing better than opening a card on your birthday/father's day/mother's day/grandparent's day/groundhog day and seeing a familiar face staring back at you.

like this!

This isn't some off the shelf, impersonal, good-enough card. Giving personalized cards really show people that you were thinking about them, not just the day. The best part about this? Um... it takes like 30 second to make a card. I should know, I do it all the time. Next best thing? Cheap. I don't know about you, but I can't stand picking up some dinky card off the shelf at the grocery store, flipping it over, and reading "$4.49". Are you kidding? Five bucks? Most Shutterfly cards are less than $2. And then I still have to add a stamp to the grocery store card to send it... which brings me to my next point. You can create a personalized photo card on Shutterfly and if you want, THEY will address and send it for an additional $0.99. How easy is that?? So in most cases (and every case of mine) you can have a beautiful card (that will actually mean something to the recipient) delivered to them for about half of the cost of a bland greeting card.

But what if you want to buy your cards in bulk for a particular holiday? What if you want to send (dare I say) Christmas cards to your closest 100 friends and family members? Perfect! I like you already. This IS the most wonderful time of the year after all. I know about 100 people who would be severely disappointed if they got our Christmas (did it again) card this year and didn't see my grinning two year old inside. He's a star already. Right after his birth I sent out announcements with his sweet picture on them... of course made on Shutterfly. The same happened for his first birthday party, last Christmas, and then again just this week for his second birthday party. We LOVE Shutterfly cards. Quite simply the most bang for your buck.

To get an idea of the type of adorable designs they have, here is the card I made recently to go with our Christmas donation to our local humane society:

So this year when you're deciding on a Holiday card, send something that your friends and family will love. Let them know you're thinking of each of them and that you wanted to share a little of your world with them this season.

If you are a blogger and would like to participate in their 2010 Holiday promotion in which you receive 50 free greeting cards for spreading the word, go here.  Enjoy!

mama to mommy

My little man has stolen my heart again.

He's been saying "mama" for a long time now, and for the most part it wasn't on command.  I would really only hear him say it if he was upset or tired.. so it was more of a whine than him actually addressing me.

BUT, the last week or so he all of the sudden picked up "Mommy"!  And not just babbling it.  He is saying it to get my attention now.  So sweet!  It's such a shift in character.  It may not seem like that big of a deal, but to me it is :)

He is just growing up so fast.  At 23 months old he is so much more of a kid than a baby now.  We've definitely had our challenges, but to see him growing and learning more each day makes everything worth it.  As we plan his second birthday party, it's amazing to see how different our little boy is from just last year.  He's running, jumping, playing, and talking up a storm.  His little personality is so hilarious.  We are just so proud of our little man.

Happy Birthday to ME :)

Today I'm 24 years old!  I'm having a great day already.  My hubby came home from work with a dozen blush roses, which were delivered to me in bed by the sweetest little boy a mommy could ask for!

Aaaaand tonight my hubby is taking me to dinner at a surprise restaurant!  I can't wait :)

Trick or Treat

Guess who had a blast?!!?
